17.1.2009. – SJEVERNA AMERIKA: TEMPERATURNI ŠOKOVI
Ovog tjedna iz Sjeverne Amerike-a stižu vijesti o polarnim hladnoćama i zimskim olujama. Temperature su se u dijelovima SAD-a i Kanade spuštale i ispod -30 °C, a ponegdje i -40 °C. Čitavog tjedna član našeg foruma iz Pittsburgha šalje izvještaje o vrlo niskim temperaturama.
Istovremeno neuobičajena toplina vlada na zapadu SAD-a i Kanade. Temperature su se u Kaliforniji ovog tjedna penjale i do 30 °C. Proteklih je dana neuobičajeno toplo i na planinama zapadne Kanade. Temperaturne šokove doživjela je i Aljaska. U pet dana temperatura je porasla i za 50 °C. Detaljnije na opciji OPŠIRNIJE. (Crometeo tim)

Nastavlja se vrlo jaka zima u središnjim i istočnim dijelovima SAD-a. Početkom tjedna je vrlo hladan arktički zrak, praćen serijom zimskih oluja, preko Kanade prodro najprije u središnje i sjeveroistočne države SAD-a. Uz temperature debelo ispod nule (a u SAD-u to znači ispod 0 Fahrenheita tj. -18 °C ), u mnogim je krajevima pao obilan snijeg. Jaka hladnoća se proširila prema jugu i jugoistoku, sve do Mississippija, Alabame, Georgije i Južne Karoline. U petak se temperatura u Atlanti spustila na -11 °C, a u New Orleansu na 0,6 °C. Jaka zima se okrivljuje za smrt najmanje 6 ljudi. Dogodile su se i desetine teških prometnih nesreća. U mnogim su državama zatvorene škole, a skloništa za beskućnike su pretrpana. Hladnoća je zamrznula vodu u jezerima i barama, pa je uginulo i mnogo životinja.
Nacionalni meteorološki ured očekuje da će hladnoće potrajati i do kraja vikenda te početkom sljedećeg tjedna. Vjetar i vrlo niske temperature uvjetuju da je osjet hladnoće vrlo nizak, pa su izdana brojna upozorenja stanovništvu da se čuva opasne hladnoće.
Oči svijeta biti će u utorak uprte i u Washington, na inauguraciju novog predsjednika SAD-a. Oko dva milijuna ljudi, koliko ih se tamo očekuje, imati će hladno vrijeme. Najviša temperatura će biti oko 0 °C, a iako je moguća pokoja snježna pahulja, većih problema s snijegom ne bi trebalo biti.
Istovremeno, u zapadnim i jugozapadnim državama SAD-a ovog tjedna vlada neuobičajena toplina. Temperature su se u Kaliforniji ovog tjedna penjale i do 30 °C. Vrlo je toplo i u planinama zapadne Kanade, gdje se temperatura jučer penjala i do 14 °C .
Dramatično je zatoplilo i na Aljasci. U Fairbanksu se temperatura od 3. do 11. siječnja nije dizala iznad -36 °C, a minimum od -43 °C je dostignut 9. siječnja. Prosječna temperatura u prvih 11 dana mjeseca je iznosila -39 °C. Čak i za hladnu Aljasku (u ovo doba godine je prosječni minimum -28 C, a prosječni maksimum -18 °C). Temperaturnim šokovima tu nije kraj. U istom mjestu, Fairnbanksu je 14. siječnja temperatura porasla na 6,7 °C, što daje skok od oko 50 stupnjeva u samo pet dana.
